Trying to understand what happened to my country?

This is the first time I have ever blogged so bear with me...It may be stream of "unconciouness" writing.

I have been in "Post Trumatic stress disorder mode" since Sept 11, 2009. I do not understand when the world went so awry. I know there has always been conflict, but I remember growing up in the UNITED States of America and now it seems like I'm residing in the DIVIDED States of America.

Why are so many politicians and people willing to accept all the theories that 9/11 was "something we created"? What happened to the strong nation I was born in? Why are we conceeding so much to placate other countries? Why do so many people in this country now see our Military as "the bad guys"...

I used to think I was "Liberal". I grew up somewhat privileged. My mother had friends from all walks of life..I didn't realize until I met my future husband that I was deluded. Having grown up during Reagan Era propserity I saw nothing of the real world despite having traveled and meeting lots of different people. I embraced it. All the time paying no real mind to politics. I was a "Political virgin".

I unfortunately stayed this way from 1992 until 2001 when a place I had visited so many times with my grandparents was destroyed by a group of people I had never had contact with...People alien to me in every way. First I was sad, and depressed and scared like so many other as first the towers were hit and then the Pentagon and then the field in Shanksville, PA. I thought my country was entering WWIII. I had a brand new baby on my lap and was frightened...

After the dust settled somewhat, the fires put out and the memorials held, my sadness and depression morphed into the same anger the rest of the nation felt...We were all United, flags waving everywhere... supported our brave men and women fighting to defend us from a cowardly and deranged enemy...now 8 years after that tragic day we live in country where even putting up a flag on your home or in your gated subdivision can cause derision and animosity. That an American Soldier returning to his hometown one last time for burial can have their funeral protested? That a stupid bank will remove the American flags lovingly placed to line and honor the way for another soldier's march to his final resting place?

How did we come to this? When did we as nation become SO divided? When did we start to turn on one another? Why does it seems like our current leaders are so anxious to destroy what those who came before us fought so hard to build and protect?

I for one had my awaking. As the wife of a former Naval Officer, who served his his country I cannot be quiet. The "sleeping" Conservative in me came out in full force. I believe in the values established over 200 years ago. I believe in the Free market and Capitalism. The chance to make something of your life. I believe in the whole being greater than the sum of the currently divisive parts.

I know I will lose friends because of my views. I have to be true to myself. I hope truly that we can regrow our backbone. I do not see that being possible with our current "Leaders".

People like Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson, Gov, Jindal, should be running this country. Someone who will defend us and stop trying to take away our liberties. Let's legalize it so Arnold CAN be elected...( I know that's not going to happen, but I we elected 1 movie star who did a great job, why not another..)

We do not need people who have no real experience. Leaders who are refusing to listen to the experts because it might not be popular... and getting "Peace Prizes" for having done NOTHING!

Being a REAL leader means making choices that may make people dislike you. Reuniting your country instead of worrying about your next photo op. It's kind of like being a mother. Sometimes you just have to say "no" to benefit unruly children.

I am hoping that this tuesday in many of this great nation's local elections the voters will engage in what Rush Limbaugh said on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace "A revolt" to common sense and the beginning of taking BACK our country. We need to show Washington that so many of us are mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore..."
